Pre-Season Friendlies: Tottenham Beat Auckland FC 2-0 in NZ

Tottenham Hotspur began their pre-season tour with a 2-0 victory over Auckland FC in an entertaining friendly at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday.

Spurs controlled much of the opening half and deservedly took the lead through Dane Scarlett, who capitalised on a rebound after Auckland goalkeeper Michael Woud failed to hold Manor Solomon's effort.

 The move was initiated by an excellent cross from Archie Gray.

Auckland FC created several opportunities before the break, with Logan Rogerson setting up Sam Cosgrove, but Tottenham goalkeeper Brandon Austin made an important save to preserve the visitors' advantage.

Both sides made numerous substitutions in the second half, with Tottenham introducing several senior players.

Brazilian striker Richarlison doubled Spurs' lead midway through the second period, finishing off a fine attacking move after an impressive run and assist from Mathys Tel.

The match attracted a crowd of around 40,000 spectators, providing a strong turnout for Tottenham's visit to New Zealand as part of their pre-season tour, which also includes two fixtures in Australia.

Although Auckland FC were outclassed by the Premier League side, the A-League champions gained valuable experience against top-level opposition ahead of the new season.
