Portugal claimed a 2-1 victory over Chile in an international friendly on Saturday as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After a goalless first half, Gonçalo Guedes broke the deadlock in the 58th minute before Bruno Fernandes doubled Portugal’s advantage with 15 minutes remaining. Lucas Cepeda scored a late consolation goal for Chile in stoppage time, but Portugal held on for the win.

The match also saw a moment of controversy just before halftime when Rafael Leão and Chile defender Iván Román were both shown red cards following an altercation.

Portugal's victory extends their strong run of form ahead of the World Cup, where they have been drawn into a group featuring the Democratic Republic of Congo, Colombia, and Uzbekistan.

Led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal will play one final friendly against Nigeria on June 10 before traveling to North America for the tournament, which begins on June 11 and runs through July 19.

The result provides another confidence boost for Roberto Martínez's side as they aim to challenge for football's biggest prize.
