Portugal national football team completed their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nigeria national football team in an international friendly on Wednesday.
Portugal took the lead in the 22nd minute when Pedro Neto finished a precise assist from Diogo Dalot with a powerful low strike.
Nigeria responded in the 37th minute through Akor Adams, who scored the equalizer to level the contest before halftime.
The winning goal arrived in the 75th minute when Francisco Conceição restored Portugal’s advantage, securing victory for Roberto Martínez’s side in their final match before the World Cup.
One of the game's most surprising moments came in the eighth minute when Cristiano Ronaldo missed a clear one-on-one opportunity after being played through by Nélson Semedo, sending his effort narrowly wide of the post.
Portugal will compete in Group K at the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Colombia, Uzbekistan and Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their opening match is scheduled for June 17 against the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Meanwhile, Nigeria failed to qualify for the tournament after losing to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the final stage of the African qualifiers.
