Pope Tawadros II Arrives in France on 1st Pastoral Visit

During his first pastoral visit to France, Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese visited the Egyptian embassy in Paris on Friday.

In this regard, Egypt’s Ambassador to France Ehab Badawi lauded the Coptic Orthodox Church for its honorable historical patriotic stances, referring to the distinguished relations between Cairo and Paris.

During his pastoral care visit to France, Pope Tawadros II inspected the Coptic diocese in Paris.

Pope Tawadros and the accompanying delegation was received by Bishop Mark of Paris. The delegation includes Bishop Daniel, Secretary of the Holy Synod, and Bishop Michael of Qubba Gardens, Waily and Abbasia.

He was born on 4 November 1952.

He is the 118th and current Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, succeeding the late Pope Shenouda III as leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria.

He took office on 18 November 2012, two weeks after being selected.

The French Coptic Orthodox Eparchy, one of the dioceses of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, was canonically instituted by His Holiness Abba SHENUDA III, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark's Predication, on June 2, 1974.

On June 19, 1994, Whitsunday, as per the Julian calendar, His Holiness Abba SHENUDA III, assisted by 62 Metropolitans and Bishops, ordained in St. Mark's Cathedral in Cairo Deputy Bishop Abba ATHANASIOS as Bishop and bestowed Bishop Abba MARCOS upon the metropolis for the whole of France.

The French Coptic Orthodox Church addresses all French people engaged in a spiritual quest as well as it addresses the spiritual needs of all French Copts of the second and third generation.
