On Wednesday, Pope Francis said that inter-faith relationships need to be "strengthened" to fight extremism and intolerance.
His remarks came during the first stop of his Asia-Pacific tour in Indonesia.
He said that interfaith dialogue is "indispensable to confront common challenges, including that of countering extremism and intolerance."
The Pope also said in the meeting with the Indonesian Presidential officials: "In order to foster a peaceful and fruitful harmony that ensures peace... the Church desires to increase interreligious dialogue."
The Catholic pope is on a three-day visit to Indonesia, the first stop in a 12-day trip that will take in Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore.
