Poland Reports 1st Case of Omicron Variant

Poland detected its first case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, a deputy health minister announced on Thursday, according to state-run news agency PAP.

Waldemar Kraska pointed out that the variant had been detected by sanitary authorities in the southern city of Katowice, the agency reported.

Poland has been dealing with a growing increase in the number of daily cases during the fourth wave that has forced authorities to tighten restrictions.

In the meantime, the country of around 38 million people has reported 3,903,445 cases of coronavirus and 90,306 deaths.

In the same vein, the Philippines detected two imported cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant, its first reported cases, the Department of Health announced on Wednesday.

The two Omicron variant cases, detected from 48 samples sequenced on Dec. 14, are currently isolated in a quarantine facility, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

“The two Omicron variant cases are incoming travelers and are currently isolated in a facility managed by the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ),” the DOH said.
