Egyptian Prime Minister (PM) Dr. Mostafa Madbouli said that the people of northern Sinai had been suffering from a brutal terrorist campaign.

"There were two options: either to fight and end terrorism, or to pursue development," PM said during his meeting with Sheikhs of Sinai Tribes in El-Arish.

"However, the strategic decision made by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was to develop Sinai, alongside fighting terrorism," he added.

Moreover, PM continued that the second phase of Sinai development plan will be launched today.

He explained that more than EGP 600 billion have been spent on development projects in Sinai so far.

Madbouli also noted that the second phase of the development plan will focus on northern Sinai, describing it as a "pure spot on the land of Egypt."

He said that "Egypt's enemies have always tried to harm Egypt from this place."
