Plane with 100 People on Board Crashes in Kazakhstan, 14 Killed

At least 14 people were killed today, Friday, after a plane with 95 passengers and five crew members on board crashed in Kazakhstan.

The civil aviation authority of Kazakhstan said in a statement that the plane, a Fokker 100, bound for Kazakh capital “Nur-Sultan”, lost altitude after the take-off, then it penetrated a concrete fence" before hitting a two-story building.

The Almaty mayor's office said that at least 14 people were killed and 22 others were hospitalized in critical conditions. The plane took off before dawn. A Reuters reporter traveling to the airport said that heavy fog was covering the area.

Earlier this month, a Chilean military plane with 38 people on board has crashed on its way to Antarctica, according to the Chile’s Air Force.

In an official statement, Chile’s Air Force revealed that the C130 Hercules, which took off from Punta Arenas city, was heading to President Eduardo Frei Montalva Antarctic Air Base when it disappeared, according to NBC news.

“The plane crashed seven hours after losing radio contact,” the statement read.

“Twenty-one people aboard the plane were passengers and 17 were crew members,” the statement added.

The plane was traveling to Antarctica to help maintain facilities at Base Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva, a Chilean base on the northern tip of the continent, according to an earlier statement.
