This year witnessed the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris. This is the first return of the Summer Games to France in more than 100 years.

Boston Celtics Won 2024 NBA
Jayson Tatum led the Boston Celtics to be 2024 NBA champions. Tatum had 31 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, to put his team on the lead over the the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 to win the franchise’s 18th championship, breaking a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most in league history.
Boston won the latest title on the 16th anniversary of winning their last Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2008.
Women's Domination
This year witnessed significant achievements in women's sports. Among top women faces who shaped the industry in 2024 were WNBA Clark and US gymnastics icon Simone Biles, and tennis promising star Coco Gauff.
Real Madrid Multiple Title Wins
Real Madrid won the 2023/2024 Champions League title after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley Stadium, and won the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental title after defeating Pachuca 3-0. Real Madrid also won 2023/2024 UEFA Super Cup after defeating Atalanta 2-0, and 2023/2024 La Liga title.
Al Ahly 1st Arabic, and African Team to Win a FIFA Title, Won 2nd Successive CAF Champions League
Al Ahly defeated UAE's Al Ain in a FIFA Intercontinental Match for the FIFA African - Asian - Specific Cup 3-0. With this victory, Al Ahly became the first Arabic and African club team to hold a FIFA title.
Al Ahly also won 2023/2024 CAF Champions League after defeating ES Tunis to win the title for the second time in a row.
Amber Glenn's Historic Victory
Figure skater Amber Glenn made history by winning gold at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Grenoble, France. As the first American to win this title in fourteen years.
Formula 1
Formula 1 races witnessed more additions and Grand Prix locations. Notable additions to the F1 calendar, such as new Grand Prix locations, continued to expand the sport's global reach.
Hamilton Final Race with Mercedes
The seven-time champion finalized his 12 years with Mercedes with a fourth-place finish after starting 16th on the grid in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas
Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas became one of the biggest entertainment spectacles of the year.
Nadal Retirement, Djokovic Captures Gold
Rafael Nadal concluded his tennis career with great joy as he teamed up with rising Spanish force Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 Olympics, and Devais Cup.
On the other hand, he had his final singular match against one of his rivals Novak Djokovic.
Although Djokovic failed to capture a grand slam title, he won the men's single gold medal in the 2024 Paris Games to fulfill his career dream.
Boxing and MMA
Boxing had a resurgence in 2024, with high-profile matches featuring crossover bouts between boxers and MMA fighters.
The UFC continued to dominate mixed martial arts, with thrilling fights and new champions emerging.
Belal Muhammed Became 1st Palestinian Fighter to Win a UFC Title
Palestinian UFC fighter Belal Muhammad became the first Palestinian fighter to hold a UFC title.
There was a welterweight title bout between champion Leon Edwards and second-ranked Belal Muhammad in a rematch.
The two faced each other before in March 2021, but the bout ended in a No Contest after Muhammad was injured.
2025 FIFA Club World Cup Draw
This year witnessed the official draw of the 1st 32-team FIFA World Cup. It will be hosted in USA. The opening game will be between Egypt's Al Ahly, and Inter Miami.
Toni Kroos Retirement
Germany's International, and Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos ended his club-career in very glorious way as it is ended with lifting the UEFA Champions League Cup with Real Madrid, before hanging his boots in the 2024 Euro tournament.
Germany were eliminated from the tournament after losing 2-1 to Spain in the quarter-finals.
WWE New Era
In 2024, WWE announced what's called a new era after the victory of Cody Rhodes over The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns to end Reigns' 2-year WWE Undisputed title run.
WWE achieved several milestones in 2024 by setting major gate-grossing records, moving WWE Raw to Netflix, WWE NXT to CW, and WWE SmackDown to US.
All Egyptian CAF Super Cup
Al Zamalek won 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup, and Al Ahly won 2023/2024 CAF Champions League so, they met each other in an All Egyptian CAF Super Cup for the first time in 20 years, and ended with the White Knights victory.
Bayer Leverkusen Won 2023/2024 Bundesliga
Bayer Leverkusen succeeded in winning the German League title for the first time in their history, after defeating Werder Bremen 5-0 and ended the 11-year domination of Bayern Munich.
They also reached the final of the UEFA Europa League, but lost to Atalanta.
Atalanta Won 1st European Title
Atalanta reached a new milestone by winning their first European title after defeating Bayer Leverkusen.
Botafogo Massive Achievements
Brazilian Botafogo had a very successful 2023/2024 season. They won 2023/2024 Copa Libertadores and clinched their first Brazilian league title since 1995.
Botafogo captured the title after defeating Sao Paulo 2-1.
Botafogo finished the campaign with 79 points from over 38 matches, six points of their closest rivals, Palmeiras.
They also captured the final seat of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and played in the FIFA Intercontinental match for the FIFA Derby of the Americas but lost to Mexico's Pachuca.
UEFA Set New Champions League System, Honor Cristiano Ronaldo
UEFA adopted a new system for the UEFA Champions League for the 2024/2025 season.
The newly adopted included the participation of 36 team in a single league format.
Participants were divided into four pots based on their individual club coefficient at the beginning of the season. The only exception was for the title holders as they were seeded in Pot 1.
Each team was drawn against two opponents from each pot, one of which they would play at home and one away.
In the league phase, teams can't face opponents from their own country and can be drawn against a maximum of two sides from the same country.
UEFA also honored Ronaldo for being the top scorer of the UEFA Champions League.
