Olympic gold medallist in swimming Italy's Thomas Ceccon was spotted “sleeping in a park” instead of his room at the Olympic Village. The photos of Ceccon went viral on social media in the past 24 hours.

People speculated that Ceccon slept in the park due to the trending negative opinions of athletes about the Olympic Village in Paris.

Husein Alireza, who captured and posted the video of Ceccon sleeping in the park,  clarified that the location was not a park but the Olympic Village itself.

He said: “Lots of fake news coming out of my story yesterday. To clarify, the location was not a ‘park’, but the Olympic Village. It’s also very common for athletes to take naps on the grass by the river.”

Previously, the Italian swimmer complained publicly about the accommodations in the Olympic Village, especially the absence of air conditions in the village.

"There is no air conditioning in the village; it’s hot, and the food is bad. Many athletes move for this reason: it’s not an alibi or an excuse; it’s the reality of what perhaps not everybody knows. I’m disappointed that I didn’t make the final, but I was too tired.

It’s hard to sleep both at night and in the afternoon. Here, I really struggle between the heat and the noise," he described.

Athletes also complained about the poor living conditions, the use of cardboard beds, the heat, noise, and food.
