"Pharaonic Queens: Drama of Love and Power" Available in Russian

CAIRO, Dec. 20 (SEE)- The Egyptian-Russian Foundation for Culture and Science published the book "Pharaonic Queens: Drama of Love and Power" by Archaelogist Dr. Hussein Abdel-Bassir in Russian, the first book by an Egyptian archaeologist to be translated into Russian.

Dr. Hussein El-Shafei, President of the Egyptian-Russian Culture and Science, announced that the foundation has chosen this book because of its great impact in the science of Egyptology and in simplifying and presenting Pharaonic Egypt, especially the lives of the queens in an exciting manner for all specialists and the public alike.

“This will also guide Russian Egyptologists about the scientific and intellectual creations in the field of archaeological research and exploration of Egyptian archaeologist,” noted El-Shafei.

El-Shafei added that the book reviews 30 pharaonic queens since Queen Nate Hetep, in the era of the First Egyptian Dynasty, through Hatshepsut, T, Nefertiti, Nefertari and Tausert to the  famous Egyptian Queen Cleopatra.

The book is presented by the Renowned Egyptian Archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass who said: "This book comes at a very important time. In addition to the fact that the author of the book, Dr. Hussein Abdel-Bassir, is a prestigious archeologist. Besides, his degree in Ancient Egyptian Archeology at Johns Hopkins University, God has granted him the talent of writing.The book will be useful to all the archeologists and to the archaeological library. Dr. Hussein Abdel-Bassir has made great effort to collect scientific information about each queen and presented it in a simple fascinating way; The book "Pharaonic Queens: Drama of Love and Power" must be read by all archaeologists."

It is worth mentioning that Abdel-Bassir is an archaeologist, novelist and writer who holds a degree in Ancient Egyptian Antiquities from the Faculty of Archeology, Cairo University. He was granted his master's and doctorate degrees in ancient Egyptian archeology and the history and the antiquities of the Near East from Johns Hopkins University, USA.

Abdel-Bassir has taught ancient Egyptian antiquities in Egypt, USA and others and published a number of books, scientific articles and literary novels. He held many positions in Egypt and abroad. He supervised and managed various projects including; the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, the Great Egyptian Museum in Giza, the Pyramids of Giza, archaeological collections, international organizations and UNESCO and the Scientific Publishing Department of the Ministry of Antiquities. 

Currently, Abdel-Bassir is the Director of the Archaeological Museum and supervisor of the Dr. Zahi Hawass Center for Egyptology at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
