Reports: Pep Guardiola Rejects Italy Job, Plans Year-Long Break from Coaching

Pep Guardiola has turned down the opportunity to become Italy's next national team manager, choosing instead to step away from coaching following the end of his decade-long spell at Manchester City.

According to ESPN, Guardiola's conversation with officials from the Italian Football Federation lasted just one minute, with the Spanish coach making it clear from the outset that he intends to take a full year away from football before considering his next move.

Italy had reportedly identified Guardiola as its top candidate after the Azzurri failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, the former Manchester City boss ruled out the possibility of taking charge of the four-time world champions at this stage.

The report also states that Italy were not the only national team interested in Guardiola, with the Netherlands also expressing a desire to appoint the 55-year-old. Despite the growing interest, Guardiola remains committed to his decision to take a break from the game.

While several high-profile opportunities are expected to emerge during his sabbatical, Guardiola is reportedly focused on enjoying time away from football before deciding whether his next challenge will come with a national team or another major club.
