Parl't Holds Opening Session of 2nd Legislative Term

The opening procedural session of the second legislative term of the House of Representatives for the period (2021-2026) is kicking off today, Tuesday at 11:00 AM Cairo local time, as President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued last Friday a presidential decree for the House of Representatives to convene on Tuesday, in order to begin the next legislative term.

The session is held amid strict precautionary and preventive measures to prevent the spread of emerging coronavirus "Covid-19".

Farida Shobashi, a member of the House of Representatives, will head the opening session of the legislative term of the 2021 Parliament, in her capacity as the oldest member. She will be the first woman to chair the House of Parliament in the history of Egypt.

 

She will read out the president’s decision to call on the parliament to convene, and the decisions of the National Elections Commission about the election results.

During the opening session, a new Speaker and two deputies will be elected then the new speaker will take over the chairmanship of the session from Shobashi.
