The House of Representatives’ Legislative and Constitutional Affairs Committee called for urgent upgrades to the Zananeiri Court before the implementation of the new family law, citing deteriorating infrastructure and service conditions.
During a meeting chaired by MP Mohamed Eid Mahgoub, the committee discussed a briefing request submitted by MP Mohamed Abdel Rahman Radi, who said the court handles a large volume of family cases through 15 prosecution offices serving both northern and southern Cairo. He added that the court’s condition affects litigants, lawyers, and staff.
Radi said the nine-story building is currently served by only one functioning elevator, while others are out of service. He also pointed to problems in the digital system, including non-operational queue machines, forcing a return to manual procedures. He added that the facility lacks adequate access for people with disabilities and suffers from overall infrastructure deterioration.
Representatives of the Ministries of Justice and Planning said steps are being taken to upgrade the court and include it in the government’s development plans as part of efforts to modernize judicial facilities.
The committee concluded by recommending immediate improvements to the court’s infrastructure and services to ensure proper functioning ahead of the new family law and to improve conditions for citizens using the facility.
