Palmeiras have booked their place in the Copa Libertadores final after pulling off a stunning comeback to defeat Ecuador’s LDU Quito 4–0 in São Paulo in the second leg of the semi-finals early Friday morning.
Having lost the first leg 3–0 in Quito, Palmeiras produced one of the most remarkable turnarounds in the competition’s history, overturning the deficit with an aggregate score of 4–3 to secure a spot in the final against fellow Brazilian side Flamengo on November 29 in Lima, Peru.
Ramón Sosa opened the scoring for Palmeiras in the 20th minute, setting the tone for the comeback. Bruno Fuchs doubled the lead with a goal deep into first-half stoppage time.
Midfielder Raphael Veiga then stole the show, scoring twice in the second half, first equalizing the aggregate score in the 68th minute before sealing the team’s passage to the final with a penalty in the 82nd minute.
The dramatic finish sparked wild celebrations among the home supporters at Allianz Parque.
Palmeiras will now face Flamengo, who advanced after defeating Racing Club—winning 1–0 in the first leg and drawing in the return fixture.
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has announced a $1 million increase in prize money for the 2025 edition of the tournament.
The champions will now receive $24 million, the largest single-match reward in continental football, while the runners-up will earn $7 million.
The 2025 Copa Libertadores Final is set to take place on November 29 in Lima, Peru, promising an all-Brazilian showdown between two of South America’s football giants.
