A Palestinian journalist was killed yesterday, Thursday, in an Israeli airstrike targeting the western part of Gaza City, raising the total number of Palestinian journalists killed since the onset of the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip to 152.

The Gaza Government Media Office stated in a press release, "The number of journalist martyrs has risen to 152 since the start of the genocide war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, following the martyrdom of journalist Saleem Al-Sharafa, a presenter and media professional at Al-Aqsa TV."

Al-Aqsa TV, where Al-Sharafa worked, announced on its Telegram channel, "His martyrdom occurred in an Israeli airstrike that targeted him just moments ago in west Gaza City."

According to data from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a New York-based non-governmental organization, the current conflict in Gaza is "the deadliest for journalists" since the CPJ began documenting journalist killings worldwide in 1992.

In February, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), based in Washington D.C., declared that the war on Gaza witnessed the highest levels of violence against journalists in 30 years. The ICFJ has called on Israel to halt the killing of journalists and to investigate the incidents of their deaths at the hands of its forces.

Since October 7, last year, Israel has waged a devastating war on Gaza, resulting in over 123,000 Palestinians killed or injured, in addition to thousands missing.
