Pakistani Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has announced that he will advise President Arif Alvi to dissolve Parliament, paving the way for national elections as the country grapples with political and economic crises.
Parliament's five-year term is set to expire on August 12, but the move will dissolve it three days early.
"I will send advice to the president tonight to dissolve parliament," PM told parliament.
Sharif’s recommendation has to be endorsed by President Arif Alvi, and the election has to be held within 90 days under the supervision of a caretaker government.
