The Pakistani army announced on Wednesday that an officer and five soldiers were killed in clashes with a group of militants in Kurram district, which borders Afghanistan.
A statement from the army explained that Pakistani forces clashed with "terrorists" who tried to infiltrate across the border, resulting in the death of seven of them after a fierce battle that lasted for hours.
The border areas between Pakistan and Afghanistan witness occasional bloody clashes between Pakistani forces and armed groups active in the region, amid escalating security tensions since the Taliban returned to power in Kabul in 2021.
