The leading Oxford corporation is planning to produce developed COVID-19 vaccines against the mutated strains of the virus, Sky News reported on Saturday.

Oxford Professor Andrew Pollard expected that the new vaccines could be ready by next September.

"We are talking to the other developers and everyone is working towards that timeline to have updated vaccines available. The main thing is to change the sequence of the spike protein so it matches some of the new variants,” he told the Daily Mail.

The Oxford professor asserted that vaccines form the only way out of the ongoing restrictions and lockdowns globally.

Regarding the latest crisis of the AstraZeneca vaccine, he explained that: “The biggest risk to humanity is people not being vaccinated – the biggest risk is from the virus.”

The vaccination rollout in the UK is considered one of the most successful ones in Europe. According to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the pandemic is now controllable after the decline of daily infections numbers.

In addition, more than 33 million UK residents received at least one short of the vaccine which can pave the way to ease the medical restrictions.
