More than 10,000 demonstrators gathered in Frankfurt am Main for a pro-Palestinian protest titled United 4 Gaza, according to local police figures cited by German media. The turnout far exceeded the initial estimate of 5,000 participants.

Organizers described Saturday’s march as the largest pro-Palestinian rally in the city since the escalation of the Gaza conflict. Police intervened several times after some protesters used banned slogans and drew controversial comparisons between the Gaza war and the Holocaust.

The demonstration took place amid intensifying Israeli military operations in Gaza. On 20 August, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz approved plans for an operation to seize Gaza City.

Israeli media later reported that the campaign, expected to last until 2026, could involve up to 130,000 reservists. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu subsequently endorsed the military’s strategy to gain control of the city and dismantle Hamas.

The ongoing war stems from the unprecedented 7 October 2023 Hamas attack, which left about 1,200 people dead in Israel and over 200 taken hostage. Israel responded with Operation Iron Swords, which imposed a complete blockade on Gaza and launched extensive strikes, including on civilian areas.

According to Gaza authorities, more than 63,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks since the conflict began.
