Oscar-Winning Actress Olympia Dukakis Dies at 89

Olympia Dukakis, an Oscar-winning actress, passed away at the age of 89 in New York on Saturday, May 1, with an official cause of death has not been revealed.

Dukakis was famous for her roles, Rose Castorini in Moonstruck and Clairee in Steel Magnolias.

Dukakis started her career in the theater, playing regional festivals before moving to "Off-Broadway", where she won an Obie Award for her portrayal of Widow Leocadia Begbick in the 1963 movie "Man Equals Man".

In 1987, she won an Academy Award in a supporting role for her portrayal of mother Rose Cantorini in Moonstruck.
