Brazilian star Oscar has decided to retire from professional football at the age of 34 due to heart-related health issues.
According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, Oscar was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope after collapsing unexpectedly during a training session with São Paulo FC.
The midfielder informed the club of his decision to retire, allowing them to plan for the upcoming season without him.
The Brazilian outlet Globo reported that Oscar discussed his future with close family members and with São Paulo FC.
Last week, the former international returned to São Paulo’s training center to meet his teammates and coaching staff after being discharged from the hospital.
Local media also noted that São Paulo FC is open to terminating his contract amicably if he chooses to end his career.
Oscar had returned to his boyhood club in December of last year after spending eight years with Shanghai Port in China, where he earned £150 million during the league’s spending boom.
