According to a statement released by the Egyptian cabinet on Tuesday, the government announced an extension of opening hours for stores, restaurants, malls, cafes, and bazaars until 2am throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

The typical operating hours for commercial establishments in the United States are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the summer and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the winter. Restaurants may open, however, from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. in the summer and from 5 a.m. to 12 a.m. in the winter.

This extension will be in effect starting on March 22, the first day of Ramadan, and will last until the conclusion of the three-day holiday of Eid Al-Fitr on April 23, which will mark the completion of the holy month.

The ruling permits venues to provide takeaway and home delivery services around-the-clock.

With the exception of workshops located on roads and gas stations that offer urgent services to citizens, handcraft stores located in residential blocks are now required to close by 10 p.m.
