At least one person has died and about 50 people have been rescued in France, local maritime authorities said, after a migrant boat trying to cross the English Channel from France capsized early on Saturday.
The district's mayor, Frank Dersen, said a large-scale rescue operation began around 6 a.m. local time (0400 GMT), with dozens of boats trying to cross at the same time.
"Unfortunately, they found dead people near Sangat," he told Reuters.
The Channel between France and Britain is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world and currents are strong.
