Egyptian Olympic champion in weightlifting Mohamed Ehab announced on Tuesday hanging up his boots after the cancellation of the 81-kg category in the upcoming Paris 2022 Games.

In an official statement, Ehab expressed that he today decided to give up the game, and surrender after the Paris 2024 Games cancelled the category of 81-kg.

He added that there isn't enough time for preparing himself for another category, and he wished that another champion made use of the chance.

After that Ehab recalled his achievements in the game including representing Egypt in six different categories in dozens of international and regional acts.

He also referred to the moment he won the Olympic medal, before sending his best wishes to his mates.

In 2019, Mohamed Ehab won 3 gold medals after he was able to lift 160 kg in the snatch and 191 kg in the clean and jerk with a combined number of 351 kg, afterwards he was crowned champion by Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhy.

In addition, he won the gold medal at the World Championships in Turkmenistan in 2018. Ehab won Egypt’s first medal in the The Snatch Lift, lifting a record breaking 173 kg.

In late 2019, the International Weightlifting Federation announced that Egypt is officially banned from the World Championships to be held in Thailand 2019.

The ban was given as a result of some players testing positive for non-legal supplements ever since the 2016 World Cup.

Therefore, Egyptian weightlifters didn't participate at the latest round of games in 2021.
