Oliver Glasner has confirmed that he will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the current season, sparking fresh speculation over his next move and placing Manchester United on high alert.

The Austrian coach, whose contract expires in June, has decided not to sign a new deal with the Premier League club.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Glasner revealed that he had informed Palace’s hierarchy months ago of his desire for a new challenge.

“I already informed the club months ago that I wanted a new challenge,” Glasner said. “We had a very long talk, and I told chairman Steve Parish that I would not sign a new contract. We agreed at the time to keep it confidential, but now it’s important to have clarity. Steve and I both want the best for Crystal Palace.”

Glasner joined Palace from Eintracht Frankfurt in February 2024 as a replacement for Roy Hodgson.

During his time at Selhurst Park, he guided the club to a historic FA Cup triumph last season and recorded 41 wins from 95 matches in charge.

His decision to depart comes at a delicate moment for Palace, who were recently knocked out of the FA Cup by non-league Macclesfield and are currently 13th in the Premier League.

The club are also winless in nine matches across all competitions and could lose captain Marc Guéhi, who is close to a January move to Manchester City.

Glasner’s availability has not gone unnoticed at Manchester United.

The Red Devils are searching for a long-term manager following the sacking of Ruben Amorim earlier this month, with Michael Carrick appointed as interim head coach until the end of the season.

Glasner is understood to be one of several candidates under consideration, alongside Carrick, England manager Thomas Tuchel, and former Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
