As part of cooperation and coordination between the OIC General Secretariat and cultural institutions and bodies in Member States, the OIC General Secretariat, in collaboration with the Gulf Research Center in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held a virtual cultural symposium titled “The Islamic World and the Question ofShared Identity".
The Symposium was designed to come out with recommendations for formulating cultural policies, at the national level and within international institutions, in order to contribute to strengthening shared identity under the umbrella of the OIC, which would, in turn, bolster cooperation amongMember States across various political, social, and economic fields.
The Symposium touched upon several themes related to reconciliation between national identity and the broaderIslamic identity, with the historical and cultural commonalitiesshared by the peoples and nations of the Islamic world.
It is worth noting that the ongoing cooperation between the OIC General Secretariat and the Gulf Research Center in Saudi Arabia is aligned with the ministerial resolutions related to cultural affairs. This collaboration is also taking place as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties on March 27, 2024, which involves organizing joint cultural activities, programs, and events.
The Symposium saw the participation of representatives from Member States, observer countries, relevant OIC institutionsand bodies, and prominent thinkers and intellectuals from the Islamic world.
