Tonight, one of the biggest rivalries in the world of tennis in 2023 will collide once again in Riyadh Season Tennis Cup as world No.1 Novak Djokovic will face world No.2 Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz claimed the top spot in the rankings for the first time, maintaining it for a cumulative 36 weeks. Djokovic, on the other hand, is set to retain the No. 1 position until at least the conclusion of the upcoming Australian Open, securing a minimum of 38 weeks.
The top two ranked players faced each other five times. Djokovic holds a 3-2 lead in their head-to-head record, facing off four times this year.
Alcaraz’s biggest victory in 2023 came in the final of Wimbledon final (1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4), while Djokovic's secured wins in the French Open semifinals (6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1) and ATP Finals (6-3, 6-2), in addition to the Cincinnati Open grand final (5-7, 7-6, 7-6).
This exhibition game will be a great preparation for both stars ahead of their respective campaigns in the new season.
The Serbian player captured seven titles, including three major tournaments and the Nitto ATP Finals.
Djokovic’s remarkable triumphs at both the Grand Slam and Masters 1000 events solidified his position as a tennis ‘G.O.A.T.’
