Regarding the women's competitions, Sabalenka, the two-time defending champion, defeated Clara Tauson 7-6 (5), 6-4, to capture her 17th victory at the Australian Open.
The third-seeded Gauff passed through the fourth round after her 6-4, 6-2 win over Leylah Fernandez.
Two-time Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka was forced to retire after dropping the first set in her third-round match against Belinda Bencic.
Jessica Pegula was eliminated in the third round after being defeated by Olga Danilovic 7-6 (3), 6-1.
