Nottingham Forest revived memories of their European glory days after securing a valuable 2–0 victory over Portugal’s Porto at the City Ground, in the third round of the UEFA Europa League group stage.
The first goal of the match was scored from the penalty spot by Morgan Gibbs-White in the 19th minute.
In the second half, Igor Jesus doubled the lead in the 77th minute.
The result marked Forest’s first home victory in European competition since 1995, when they defeated Denmark’s Midtjylland.
The win carried a special significance, as it came during the European debut of manager Sean Dyche, who began his journey with the team in convincing fashion, showcasing his trademark solidity and pragmatic approach that have long defined his style in English football.
The match also featured the first-ever European encounter between Nottingham Forest and Porto, as well as Forest’s first meeting with a Portuguese opponent.
