Premier League side Nottingham Forest announced on Tuesday morning the dismissal of Portuguese coach Nuno Espírito Santo, just three games into the 2025–26 Premier League season and ahead of the competition’s restart following the international break.
In an official statement, the club said: "Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has been relieved of his duties as head coach.
We thank him for his contributions during a highly successful spell at The City Ground, particularly his achievements in the 2024–25 season, which will remain part of the club’s history."
According to reports, the decision came amid growing tensions between the Portuguese manager and the club’s hierarchy.
Nuno had previously admitted that his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis was no longer the same as last season, in addition to clashes with new sporting director Edu, formerly of Arsenal.
Santo took charge of Forest in December 2023, when the team sat 17th in the table with just one win from 13 matches.
He managed to steer the club clear of relegation and, remarkably, guided them to a seventh-place finish the following year with 65 points—securing Europa League football for the first time since 1996.
