On Monday, Norway's data protection agency announced that it will fine Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, 1 million kroner ($100,000) per day for privacy violations unless it takes remedial action, in a move that could have broader European repercussions, according to Reuters.
The authority said it will impose the fine every day from the fourth of August until the third of November, unless "Meta" takes action.
It added that in Norway, the company cannot collect data such as users' locations and use it to target ads to them, a business model common to big tech companies.
On its part, the company confirmed that it would review Datatilsynet’s decision and that there would be no immediate impact on its services.
