Norway received a hero's welcome in Oslo after its historic 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, with more than 100,000 fans lining the streets to celebrate the national team's run to the quarterfinals.

Despite suffering a 2-1 extra-time defeat to England in the last eight, the Norwegian squad returned home on Monday to a festive reception that featured a water cannon salute, an open-top bus parade, and a royal reception at the Royal Palace.

King Harald, Crown Prince Haakon, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, and Prince Sverre Magnus welcomed the players, with Crown Prince Haakon praising the squad for making the nation proud after inviting them to the palace immediately following their World Cup exit.

Supporters packed the palace square and Karl Johans gate before the players greeted fans from the palace steps.

The celebrations culminated in Norway's famous "Viking Row" chant, led by Crown Prince Haakon as tens of thousands of supporters joined in.

However, Erling Haaland missed the final stage of the festivities after leaving early to catch a flight following delays to the team's return from the United States.

Head coach Stale Solbakken explained that both Haaland and midfielder Sander Berge had to depart due to travel commitments.

Norway's quarterfinal appearance marked the nation's best World Cup performance since 1998, sparking nationwide celebrations and cementing the team's place among the tournament's biggest success stories.
