In cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Cairo, the National Museum for Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat held a celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun.

Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Museum Authority, and H.E. Michele Quaroni, the Italian ambassador to Cairo, delivered a joint speech at the beginning of the celebration, in which they welcomed the guests including the ambassadors of foreign and Arab countries in Cairo, high-ranking delegations and a number of researchers and those interested in the field of archaeological work.

The joint speech was followed by the screening of a film entitled: "Tutankhamun: The Last Exhibition", which tells the story behind the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb in November 1922 AD and shows the preparations and equipment for the launch of the great pharaoh's temporary exhibition in Los Angeles in 2018.

Following the film, Dr. Zahi Hawass reviewed the movie and gave a lecture about the boy king's discovery to the guests, where he explained the pivotal role of the Egyptians in discovering the tomb.

The celebration also featured a photo exhibition entitled "Narratives We Have Not Seen: Tutankhamun's Tomb", which showcases a collection of rare photographs related to the story of the discovery of the tomb between 1922 and 1930, and the role of the Egyptians in this stunning archaeological discovery.
