Japanese pro wrestling superstar and legend Hiroshi Tanahashi announced, on Monday, his retirement in 2026.
During the NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling event, Tanahashi confirmed that his final match will be at NJPW most iconic annual event Wrestle Kingdom 20 on January 4, 2026. The event will take place at the most prestigious Japanese venues, Tokyo Dome.
Tanahashi's career spans over 25 years old, and he is the only Japanese grand slam champion at the NJPW. He is widely known as "The Ace."
Tanahashi said that he is ready to close his in-ring career.
It seems that Tanahashi will start his retirement tour by the beginning of 2025 as he will reunite with another NJPW legend Kenny Omega.
It is also expected that he will have several matches against opponents like Kazuchika Okada.
After his retirement, he is expected to continue his duty as the President of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
