Nicolas Mouawad has unveiled the official trailer for his upcoming international series HOSTAGE, revealing a striking performance that includes speaking Russian for the first time on screen, marking a new milestone in his expanding global career.
The actor shared the trailer and exclusive stills عبر his official Instagram account, confirming that the series will premiere on April 25 on Kinopoisk, with weekly episodes available through Yandex Plus. Mouawad is also set to travel to Russia on April 23 to attend the premiere alongside the cast and production team.
HOSTAGE represents Mouawad’s fourth international project, continuing a trajectory that has seen him gain recognition across multiple markets. He previously appeared in His Only Son, directed by David Helling, which achieved strong box office performance in the United States, as well as in Three Thousand Years of Longing, directed by George Miller and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. His international work also includes the series Karantina, filmed in Greece alongside American actor James Franco.
For his role in HOSTAGE, Mouawad undertook the challenge of learning Russian, adding to a growing list of languages he has used professionally. His previous performances include roles in English and French, as well as Persian for his portrayal of Omar Khayyam, and Turkish in his music projects, alongside his versatility across Arabic dialects.
Filmed across Russia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, the series is set in 2014 and moves between Moscow, Syria, and Turkey. It follows a financial analyst whose life is turned upside down when his sister is kidnapped. As he seeks help from a mysterious figure named Said, played by Mouawad, the story unfolds into a tense narrative where wealth alone cannot guarantee survival.
The cast includes Maxim Matveev, Darya Avratinskaya, Fares Landoulsi, Toni Gojanović, Raouf Ben Amor, Alexander Lazarev, Artem Bystrov, Karen Badalov, and Ksenia Komarova.
The series is based on an original concept by Alexandra Remizova, with a screenplay by Andrey Tsibulsky and Sergey Popov. It is produced for Kinopoisk by Lunapark Film Company, in collaboration with Plus Studio.
