Brazilian football star Neymar has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement released by Santos FC and reported by Brazilian media.

The 33-year-old forward, who rejoined his boyhood club earlier this season, showed symptoms last Thursday and was immediately sidelined from all team activities.

Medical tests confirmed Neymar's infection, though the club has not yet disclosed how long he will be out of action. Santos did not respond to Reuters' request for further comment.

Neymar was already set to miss Santos' upcoming match against Fortaleza this Thursday due to suspension. That fixture will be the club’s final game before the Brazilian league pauses for the FIFA Club World Cup, which takes place in the United States from June 15 to July 13.

The former Barcelona and PSG star's future at Santos remains uncertain, with his current contract set to expire on June 30. Despite struggling with injuries throughout his return season, Neymar has made 12 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
