Brazilian reports revealed new developments regarding the injury suffered by Neymar da Silva, the Santos player, during the Brazilian league match against Mirassol, which took place early last Thursday and ended in a 1–1 draw.

Neymar scored Santos’ goal in the game before Mirassol equalized through Renaldo.

The Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte reported that Neymar suffered a recurrence of the meniscus injury in his left knee, the same injury he sustained during his time with Al-Hilal Saudi Club, according to medical examinations.

The newspaper added that Neymar will be out until the end of 2025 due to the renewed meniscus injury, meaning he will miss Santos’ remaining three matches in their battle to avoid relegation.

Neymar’s setback came after playing only three matches recently, during which Santos defeated Palmeiras, lost to Flamengo, and drew with Mirassol.

The player began to feel pain in his left knee during the match against Mirassol on October 19.

Neymar, who has made 128 international appearances and scored 79 goals for Brazil, underwent ACL surgery in October 2023, and then suffered a series of injuries throughout 2025, including issues in his left thigh and a hamstring injury in his right leg last September.

With his continued absence from club and country since the serious injury in 2023, his chances of making the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup are diminishing, especially with only one international window left in March before Carlo Ancelotti names the final squad.
