In a shocking turn of events, the Brazilian star of Newcastle United, Joelinton, fell victim to a home robbery while he was with his family during his team's 2-3 defeat against Manchester City.
Joelinton, who is currently sidelined due to injury, received a notification on his phone while seated in the stands, indicating a breach at his residence.
He immediately contacted the police to inform them that three individuals had broken into his home in Northumberland. However, the police helicopter arrived at the scene after the burglars had fled.
A police spokesperson stated, "Shortly before half-past seven on Saturday evening, we received a call from the homeowner reporting a break-in by three men at his residence in Darras Hall.
Fortunately, the homeowner was not at home when this occurred, and the police arrived after the suspects had already left. We have launched an investigation into the incident and are seeking information from the public."
Joelinton is the latest Premier League star to become a victim of burglaries targeting footballers' homes.
Previously, the home of Jack Grealish, a Manchester City star, was targeted, and in late December, Kevin De Bruyne's residence in Belgium was robbed while the player was attending the Club World Cup, which Manchester City ultimately won.
