Manchester United suffered a 2–1 defeat away to Newcastle United on Wednesday evening at St James’ Park, in a dramatic encounter during Matchweek 29 of the Premier League.

Newcastle took the lead deep into first-half stoppage time through Anthony Gordon, who found the net in the sixth minute of added time.

However, the hosts’ momentum was briefly halted when Jacob Ramsey was sent off in the 45th minute, leaving Newcastle to continue the match with ten men.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Manchester United quickly responded. Just three minutes after Gordon’s opener, Casemiro equalized for the visitors, capitalizing on United’s push to exploit Newcastle’s reduced lineup.

As the match appeared to be heading toward a draw, Newcastle delivered a decisive blow in the closing moments. In the 90th minute, William Osula scored the winning goal, securing all three points for the Magpies in front of their home supporters.

Following the result, Manchester United remain third in the Premier League standings with 51 points, while Newcastle climb to 12th place with 39 points. Arsenal continue to lead the table with 67 points, followed by Manchester City with 60.

The defeat also marks the first loss for Manchester United under interim manager Michael Carrick. The former midfielder had overseen seven matches prior to the defeat, recording six wins and one draw.

The match also featured Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui making his first start under Carrick, replacing Diogo Dalot in the only change from the lineup that faced Crystal Palace in the previous round.
