Newcastle United have increased their bid for RB Leipzig’s rising star Benjamin Sesko, with Sky Germany reporting a new offer of €80 million (£69.7m) plus add-ons now on the table.

Just days ago, Sky Sports News revealed Newcastle’s opening bid stood at €75 million plus €5 million in bonuses.

Talks have since progressed, and the Magpies are now pushing hard to secure the Slovenian striker’s signature ahead of the competition.

But they aren’t alone in the race.

Manchester United remain in active discussions with Leipzig and are expected to submit an official offer soon.

Sources close to the negotiations suggest that while Sesko is intrigued by both projects, there’s a growing sense he would prefer a move to Old Trafford—if the clubs can strike a deal.

Initially, it was believed United would need to sell before buying.

However, reports indicate they now have the green light to sign a striker before offloading players, so long as exits happen before the transfer window shuts.

Interestingly, Leipzig are showing interest in United’s Rasmus Hojlund and have floated the idea of including him on loan in any potential Sesko agreement.

Hojlund, who scored in United’s recent 4-1 win over Bournemouth, has started two of the team’s four pre-season matches. Yet, the arrival of another forward could see his minutes reduced.

Still, a scenario where both Sesko and Hojlund remain at United cannot be ruled out—setting up an intriguing final few weeks of the transfer window.
