The US military announced on Monday that it had killed a person suspected of drug trafficking during a targeted strike on a vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean.

According to US Southern Command, which oversees American military operations in Latin America and surrounding regions, the operation targeted a boat travelling along a known maritime route frequently used for drug smuggling.

The strike was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt transnational narcotics trafficking networks operating in international waters.

US Southern Command confirmed that one suspected drug trafficker was killed during the operation, while no American military personnel were injured. The military described the individual as a high-risk target involved in organised drug smuggling activities.

The eastern Pacific Ocean is considered a major corridor for maritime drug trafficking, particularly for cocaine shipments moving north from South America.

US forces regularly conduct surveillance and interdiction missions in the region in coordination with international partners to combat organised crime and prevent illegal drugs from reaching global markets.
