In a significant political development, the newly formed Palestinian government officially took its constitutional oath before President Mahmoud Abbas. This ceremony, as highlighted in a breaking news segment by the Cairo News Channel, marks a pivotal moment in Palestinian politics amidst ongoing regional conflict.

The backdrop to this political milestone is the continued aggression by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, starting from October 7th. This prolonged offensive has resulted in a devastating toll, with over 32,000 people killed, predominantly children and women, and more than 74,000 others injured. These are preliminary figures, with many victims still buried under debris or left in the open, as Israeli forces restrict access to rescue and medical teams.

The civilian population in the occupied Palestinian territories, which includes the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, has been subjected to severe breaches of international humanitarian law. Israeli military actions have been characterized by the bombing of civilian residences, destruction of vital infrastructure, and the use of a range of weaponry, some of which, like cluster bombs and white phosphorus, are banned under international law. These measures have inflicted substantial loss of life and property, deepening the humanitarian crisis in the region.
