New Discovery at Ramses II Temple

CAIRO, Mar. 28. (SEE)- Archaeological mission of New York University at Ramses II Temple of in Abydos uncovered the lobby of Pharaoh Ramesses ll palace and the stones of establishment during archaeological excavations around the temple to complete the discovery of its architectural elements.

Dr. Mustapha Waziri secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that the discovery will change the shape and map of the temple, in addition to the new view to our knowledge of the layout and shape of the temples and their accessories.

Noteworthy, the architectural picture of the accessories of this temple, including the lobby and palace similar to the accessories of his father temple of "Sity I", which is located in 300 m at south.

Ayman El-Ashmawy head of the Egyptian Antiquities Department, reported that the hall consists of walls made of limestone and bricks . Also, the mission found inside the second hall on the base of a sandstone column and the same type of stone carrying the name of Ramses II, another stone carrying the remains of the stars that decorated the hall roof.

Dr. Sameh Iskandar head of the Archaeological Mission, confirmed that during the excavations in the southern part of the temple, a stone passway was found in front of the southwestern gate of the temple, It was discovered that it led to another building entrance.

Iskandar, reported that the excavation revealed one of the rarest archaeological discoveries, the royal cartridges of King Ramses II, which carry the name of coronation and birth on a golden background colored by the sun disk
