New Date For “El Clasico” Revealed

Royal Spanish Football Federation has confirmed on Wednesday that El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid would be held on December 18.

The Spanish giants were due to meet each other on Saturday, October 26 at Camp Nou in the first Clasico of the season, but the game was delayed due to protests in Barcelona. 

The RFEF has issued a statement announcing the new date on its official website saying that the game would be held on December 18 at the Camp Nou stadium.

"The Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation has agreed today to set for December 18 the date of Barcelona vs Real Madrid," the statement read according to Mirror.

It also explained that the decision was taken after discussing the proposals, presented by both clubs during the previous days.

"The decision of the Competition Committee has come after analyzing, in recent days, the proposals of both clubs, that agreed on a date of December 18 for the postponed match," the statement added.

On Friday, October 18, the Spanish Federation had asked both clubs to agree on a new date for the Clasico and presented it to the RFEF by Monday 21st October.

The Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid

On their parts, both Spanish clubs issued statements on Friday, confirming that they have agreed on Wednesday, December 18 as a new date for the Clasico.

“Real Madrid wishes to communicate that the date proposed by both said clubs is the 18th of December,” the Whites’ statement on their official website.

While, Barca issued a statement, announcing the new date, adding that the Blaugrana were so keen on holding the game at the same date declared before on Saturday, October 26 and refusing to relocate the venue of the Clasico to Santiago Bernabeu.

“The Club’s desire was to play the Clásico at Camp Nou on the 26th, the date and time previously agreed and the Committee was informed of this in writing,” the statement read.

“Nevertheless, having received the decision of the RFEF Competition Committee to postpone the game citing “exceptional circumstances” and given that it falls to the clubs to agree on a new date for the game before Monday, the Club will propose 18 December,” the statement added.
