On Thursday, the Libyan Ministry of Health of the Government of National Accord (GNA) has announced the country's third coronavirus-related death, keeping the total number of cases at 61 including 18 recoveries.

In a statement, the ministry said that a 92 year old woman has died from coronavirus. This ups the total number of deaths in Libya due to COVID-19 to 3.

It is noteworthy that the Libyan National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced on Wednesday that Libya had not recorded any new cases of COVID-19 over the past five days, stating that the latest batch of 55 suspected samples had all tested negative for the virus.

Also last Thursday, the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord announced the reduction of curfew hours in Libya’s western cities. The new curfew went into effect yesterday, April 28, and will last from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Libya currently has 61 total cases, including 18 recoveries and 3 deaths.

It is noteworthy that Libya confirmed its first case of the new coronavirus on March 2020, with years of violence leaving its healthcare system highly vulnerable.

Several Arab countries have tightened restrictions on movement and travel, with the aim of curbing the spread of the Coronavirus, and some have pledged billions of dollars in economic stimulus programs to reduce the economic repercussions of the crisis.

The COVID-19 epidemic continued its rapid growth, bringing the number of people affected by it to nearly one million people worldwide, half of whom are in Europe.

The global epidemic caused by the novel coronavirus has also claimed the lives of nearly 54,200 people, amid expectations that America will become the new epicenter of the epidemic.
