Manuel Neuer achieved a new historic milestone in his illustrious career after equaling the record of Lionel Messi in the UEFA Champions League for the most starts with a single club.

The achievement came during Bayern Munich’s clash against Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-finals, where Neuer made his 136th starting appearance for the Bavarian side, matching Messi’s tally with Barcelona.

At the Santiago Bernabéu, Neuer not only reached the landmark but also delivered a standout performance, playing a key role in Bayern’s valuable 2-1 away victory.

Luis Díaz opened the scoring in the 41st minute following a precise assist from Serge Gnabry, before Harry Kane doubled the lead early in the second half with a powerful strike.

Although Kylian Mbappé pulled one back for Real Madrid in the 74th minute, Neuer’s brilliance and strong return from injury ensured Bayern maintained their advantage until the final whistle.

With this result, Bayern Munich move closer to securing a place in the semi-finals, while Real Madrid remain hopeful of overturning the deficit in the decisive second leg.
