The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) was awarded the International Excellence in Retail Finance by Asian Banker based on an assessment of the size and development of the bank's retail business and its ability to provide new and innovative services.
The evaluation also includes the increase in the number of distribution network units and the extent of the effectiveness of their distribution, the size of the retail banking portfolio in the field of deposits and loans, retail products and annual growth rates, in addition to the quality of service in various branches, the number and nature of electronic banking services provided to clients and the extent of the bank's ability to update them continuously.
Every year, banks are keen to claim the retail banking awards, also known as consumer banking, which is the provision of services by a bank to the general public, rather than to companies. The award is issued by one of the most reputable international institutions with credibility and international weight in the field of bank evaluation, whose scope of assessment includes the Far East countries, the Arab Gulf countries and some African ones.
In a comment on the award, Yehia Aboul-Fotouh, Deputy Chairman of the NBE, expressed his pride in the bank's ability to keep the award for several consecutive years, stressing that it reflects the achievement of the bank's in the field of retail banking.
The bank's portfolio exceeds EGP 100 billion for the first time in the Egyptian banking sector, which was accomplished months before the targeted plan, confirming the effectiveness of the bank's plans to attract more clients, which has increased to 14 million customers.
On the level of the distribution network, Karim Sousse, Head of Inpidual Funding in the bank indicated that the number of ATMs has increased to 4,400 machines that operate throughout the day and carry out withdrawals and deposits from accounts, payment of salaries, payment of dues, invoices, donations and inquiries about balances, and the number of POS has reached more than 22 thousand machines,
Also, the bank's branch network has reached 510 banking branches and units spread throughout the country, according to plans and strategies studied for expansion.
NBE makes breakthrough in e-services
He added that in the field of retail banking, NBE has made a breakthrough in the electronic services provided, as the number of bank internet customers reached more than 2.3 million inpidual customers and 58.5 thousand corporate customers are allowed to use modern technology and smart communication to obtain their banking services electronically by fast and safe means that achieve their aspirations and contribute to enriching their different lifestyle and activities in addition to the Phone Cash services, which contributed to achieving financial inclusion by attracting clients not dealing with banks.
Moreover, the cards issued to customers varied between 5.3 million direct debit cards and 4.8 million prepaid cards, in addition to more than 1,200 million credit cards, and more than 1.7 million advantage cards.
The steady growth, expansion and persification achieved by the National Bank in the areas of retail banking has caused the bank to retain this distinguished award since 2012 according to the classification of the Asian Banker International Corporation.
