Napoli have officially appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach on a contract running until June 2029.

The 58-year-old succeeds Antonio Conte, who left the Serie A club at the end of May after two seasons in charge. Conte guided Napoli to the 2024-25 Serie A title before leading the club to a second-place finish last season.

Allegri returns to Naples after previously playing for the club during the 1997-98 season. Napoli had been waiting for the Italian manager to finalize the termination of his contract with AC Milan before completing the appointment.

One of Italy's most successful coaches, Allegri won his first Serie A title with AC Milan in 2011 before enjoying a trophy-filled spell at Juventus.

Between 2014 and 2019, he led Juventus to five consecutive Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, three Italian Super Cups, and two UEFA Champions League finals in 2015 and 2017.

After returning to Juventus in 2021, Allegri added another Coppa Italia title in 2024 before taking charge of AC Milan for the 2025-26 season.

However, his second spell at Milan lasted just one campaign after the club missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification by finishing fifth in Serie A. Milan dismissed Allegri following a disappointing end to the season, winning only two of their final eight league matches.

Throughout his managerial career, Allegri has won six Serie A titles, five Coppa Italia trophies, three Italian Super Cups, and has twice been named Serie A Coach of the Year.
