North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un has ousted the top general of his army, urging aggressive war readiness by enhancing weapon production and training, media reported.
During a meeting of the Central Military Committee on Wednesday, Kim dismissed General Pak Su-il, Chief of General Staff, and replaced him with Deputy Marshal Ri Yong-gil.
The report from North Korea's Central News Agency did not provide further details, but this move comes just days after Kim conducted inspection visits to several key weapon factories within the country.
The report indicates that the mentioned military meeting encompassed "preparations for a full-scale war," including "securing more potent offensive means" to ensure "optimal military readiness for war."
Kim also called upon "all ammunition manufacturing facilities to ramp up production in massive quantities for various weapons and equipment."
Furthermore, the North Korean leader also emphasized the need for active war exercises to effectively operate the latest weapons and equipment that have been recently deployed.
The agency stated that Kim reached a significant conclusion regarding intensifying war preparedness for the Korean People's Army in an offensive manner.
This military meeting occurs as Seoul and Washington are gearing up for major joint military maneuvers later this month, which North Korea views as a precursor to an invasion.
